Coolies : How Britain reinvented slavery
I swear my heart goes out to the indentured labor of India
& I absolutely hate white imperialism
So happy to be in FASS
Current modules teaching about stuff in India, Japan, Singapore etc
Bringing your attention to issues in places all around the world
Do you know how bad gender inequality is in India & Japan ?
Some of the stuff i found out (FYI: these are not stuff taught by lecturers, i just went to find out more about issues raised during lecture so do not mistaken the below as my module content)
Indian women - Some of them never ever even experienced orgasm before
Cos if they openly show sexual pleasure they would be deemed as "unclean/sluts" as it would mean that they had sexual experience
Japan women - typically housewives in an extreme patriarchal society where hegemonic masculinity oppresses these women
Yeah the situation's improving but it's still not enough
As radical feminists in sociology argue "a gender revolution is required to overthrow patriarchy"
Recently I read in The Economist that Japan is facing demographic crisis
A Land of wasted talent
These wasted talent are of course referring to women
A significant number of women graduates are not even finding proper jobs
They are like serving tea at home ?! LOL.
I am glad I'm not born in Japan.
Other stuff i learnt - PAP & Singapore.
Yeah PAP is a stable government but they're full of hidden tricks as there is a need to "sustain their hegemony over the state"
They've been the dominant government ever since independence man !
It's time for the educated gen y/z to question them
Maybe I'll vote for opposition when I'm of age
Stupid Tin Pei Ling sleeping in parliament during Lee Hsien Loong speech
I want Nicole Seah !
Yeah so this is what i'm learning here in FASS while my friends are learning physics, stats etc in other courses
It really opens your mind & helps you understand the world
Not like those stringent courses that drills you in maths/science
Who the hell would need to use trigonometry or calculus when you work next time ?
Unless you're a teacher
But nah , i'm not gonna work for MOE
Haha i'm gonna be damn bias towards arts as a science-convert-arts student
It's not a no future path of education okay ?
FASS curriculum suits me
Used to hate the cheem module structure - Exposure modules/Unrestricted electives/GEMS etc
But now i understand why they want students to be drilled in a chapalang manner
So sad this is just gonna last for one semester
After this gonna concentrate on my major & minor
In a dilemma
Major in Econs or Soci ?
I wanna do econs cos of job prospects
But soci is so damn interesting ! Econs all about maths ):
Should i study what i like ? rah.
On a side note
I LOVE THE SONG PARADISE FROM MYO XYLOTO BY COLDPLAY <3
hello & goodbye, 7:13 PM
